The 19th General Conference on Weights and Measures in 1991 was the last update to the metric system. At that time, they added the following multiplying factors:
Multiplying factor | Prefix | Symbol |
1021 | zetta | Z |
10–21 | zepto | z |
1024 | yotta | Y |
10–24 | yocto | y |
How much bigger could anyting be? Really?
We have rapidly gone through Tera, Peta, Exa and are reaching Zetta.
It appears the amount of digital data holdings are going to exceed these multiplying factors soon.
Any ideas for some new names? I always liked eleventy.
